Flashlight Brown featured guitarist/vocalist Matt Hughes, drummer Tim Thomson, bassist Fil Bucchino, and guitar player Mike Conroy. Rocking stunned of Guelph, Ontario, in 1996, the four-spot pals in the first piazza leaned toward a ska-inflected punk rock wakeless. They issued an eponymous album that same year on the Montreal indie STOMP, but aroused to Double A for the Running Season LP a stratum later. Flashlight had by now established a angered touring agenda, and backed up their asphalt time with an active situation. By 2000's Self-Titled Again (Matrimony 2112), the quartet had for the most part excised the ska influences from their punk-pop rut, and had added the "Robert Brown" to their call. More touring followed, until a late 2002 display case in L.A. light-emitting diode to a deal with Hollywood. Rob Cavallo -- far-famed helmer of Green Day's Dookie -- sign-language on to produce the band's major-label debut, and in April 2003, it appeared. My Degeneration featured a few new tracks and re-recordings of actual real; Flashlight Brown supported it with a minitour of American high schools, as substantially as a series of more proper dates on Lollapalooza and at regular clubs that summer.

Thievery Corporation make abstract, instrumental, mid-tempo dance music somewhere betwixt trip-hop and acid jazz. The production duo of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, Thievery Corporation released a few warmly standard singles on their hold Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL) label (named for their Washington, D.C. browning automatic rifle and cabaret) in 1996. Previously known chiefly among acidulous wind and rare-groove DJs, the group shot to nonaged fame when a cut from i of their early 12"'s appeared on respected DJ/producers Kruder & Dorfmeister's mix session for Studio K7's DJ Kicks series. Similar in many respects (and more than just numeral) to that Viennese production duo, Thievery Corporation after grew in popularity among a wider hearing of DJs and headphonaunts. Their debut full-length appeared in 1997, along with a compilation of Washington, D.C.-based electronica artists, Dubbed Out in DC (both on ESL). After 4AD signed the duet they began work on their second LP only were forced to hold over the spill particular date after tapes were stolen in a mugging. The stopgap remix compilation Abductions & Reconstructions was released in 1999, and their second proper album The Mirror Conspiracy followed a twelvemonth after. Their ontogeny renown made them a natural to blue-ribbon tracks for the 2001 Verve compilation Sounds From the Verve Hi-Fi, and one year later, the duo returned with a tierce base mathematical product LP, The Richest Man in Babylon. The mix album Outernational Sound and remix EP Babylon Rewound appeared in 2004. The Cosmic Game from 2005 featured client vocalists Perry Farrell, the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne, and David Byrne. A twelvemonth later a endorsement remix compilation, Versions, was released.

Director rides to the rescue of Genghis Khan's reputation with "Mongol"

FILTER

Anthems for the Damned (Pulse): B

Filter’s first release in six years is a solid wartime-themed set heavy on melody and light on original members: touring NIN drummer John Freese and guest guitarists John 5 and Wes Borland fill in the blanks. Now sober, 40 and a new father, frontman Richard Patrick’s songwriting reflects a more mature viewpoint, while the music sounds pleasingly similar to last year’s all-too-short-lived supergroup Army of Anyone, featuring STP’s DeLeo brothers. The acoustically-tinted “Soldiers of Misfortune” and ”Cold” both qualify as top-shelf mid-tempo metal ballads, while “The Wake” and “What’s Next” come closer to the gnashing bite longtime fans crave. But restraint prevails. Download: “Kill the Day.”

Nicole Richie to Guest Star on 'Chuck'

NBC's returning drama Chuck will get a new cast member this fall, when Nicole Richie joins the cast for one episode as Special Agent Sarah Walker's high school nemisis.

Richie will guest star as the snarky and spiteful girl who tortured Sarah in school. Now Sarah must face her fears when she's forced to attend her 10-year high school reunion.

"Nicole auditioned for the part and was very funny," said executive producer Josh Schwartz. "This role is a great opportunity for her to show off her comedic skills and be diabolically evil and kick some butt. It's going to be really fun."

This will be Richie's first guest role since giving birth to her daughter Harlow. In addition to co-starring with Paris Hilton on The Simple Life, the new mom has appeared on shows such as 8 Simple Rules and American Dreams.

Richie also plans to launch her own jewelry line this fall, called House of Harlow 1960.

Big Brother - New Contestant To Join Big Brother After Alexandra Exit

A new contestant will enter the Big Brother house after Alexandra De-Gale was removed for threatening other housemates.

The 23-year-old, from Croydon, south London, was due to face eviction alongside Mario Marconi, 43, on Friday but the vote has now been suspended after she was thrown off the ninth series of the show for making references to her "gangster friends".

A new contestant will now enter the Big Brother house following Alexandra's exit interview with Davina McCall.

She had already been reprimanded by Big Brother after being perceived to have bullied other contestants after Ofcom received 433 complaints when Alexandra De-Gale verbally attacked Rebecca Shiner, Rachel Rice and Stephanie McMichael in an argument over food.

And after she reportedly made threatening remarks while discussing her nomination for eviction, Channel 4 took the decision to remove her from the house.

According to a transcript of a conversation between Alexandra and albino contestant Darnell Swallow, she said: "I'm not throwing water at anyone. It's bigger than that... personal offence is never forgotten, do you know what I mean?

"We are just inside the house. I've got a very, very, very, very, very strong team outside the house."

She added: "I just can't wait to see my mans and them and see what their plans are, who they got... I'm not talking about those mans, I'm talking about my gangster friends. They got some instructions to follow out."

Alexandra was called to the diary room at 20:00 BST on Wednesday and removed from the house without further contact with other contestants, who were told at 21:15.

Big Brother is screened on Channel 4 tonight at 21:00 and between 22:30 and 23:05.

Formed from the ashes of C-86 giants Talulah Gosh, Heavenly spearheaded the twee-pop charge of the 1990s, becoming the legendary Sarah Records label's biggest international stars. The quaternity creation members of Heavenly -- vocaliser Amelia Fletcher, her drummer brother Mathew, guitar player Peter Momtchiloff and bassist Robert Pursey -- were also among the creation members of Talulah Gosh back in 1985; their unexampled project followed in a guidance similar to their previous work, retaining their stylemark sweetness and light pop flavour but with a tighter, more grow sense of workmanship. Formed in Oxford, England during the summer of 1989, Heavenly debuted early the following year with their Sarah label single "I Fell in Love Last Night," a irregular seven-inch, "Our Love Is Heavenly," preceded the loss of the mini-album Heavenly vs. Satan in early 1991. Keyboardist and financial support vocaliser Cathy Rogers was recruited for the full-length followup, Le Jardin de Heavenly; the first gear of the band's releases to receive an overseas press release thanks to a licensing deal with Calvin Johnson's K Records, it helped farther establish Heavenly as Sarah's flagship act in the wake of labelmates the Field Mice's late dying. Another EP, P.U.N.K. Girl, appeared in 1993, and in 1994 Heavenly issued their irregular LP, The Decline and Fall of Heavenly. After completing 1996's Operation Heavenly, tragedy stricken when Mathew Fletcher -- too the group's main songwriter -- took his have lifetime on June 14 of that year; Heavenly immediately ceased to subsist, although the living members later proclaimed their intentions to dribble on under the name Marine Research.

Iron man Harris still has metal in his soul

Iron Maiden closed its 2008 American tour last night with a glorious onslaught of metal and some terrible sound problems.
The band has already sold out stadiums from India to Japan, Brazil to Costa Rica on its “Somewhere Back in Time” tour. But it couldn’t sell out Comcast Center last night. And after playing to close to a million people, the septet of metal gods couldn’t escape sonic hiccups for almost an hour. But it didn’t really matter.
The Iron Maiden nation didn’t come for crystal clear sound. The fans came to hear hits in rapid-fire succession like bullets from band mascot Eddie’s machine gun. They came to see a fog of doom descend during a 13-minute “Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” a massive model sphinx’s head split open to reveal a giant mummy Eddie shambling like the specter of death, and six towers of flame erupt throughout “The Number of The Beast.”

During its worst bits, the sound got so bad singer Bruce Dickinson’s mike completely cut out - his stage banter before “Wasted Years” was almost totally lost. But after half a dozen songs, the engineers did their job and Dickinson was as operatic and epic as ever.
Since Adrian Smith’s return to the band in 1999, Maiden has embraced the triple guitar attack. Why three guitars? Well, that’s a stupid question to a Maiden fan. Maiden devotees think of guitarists the same way Gillette thinks of razors: More are always better. And the proof is in the performance. Guitarists Smith, Dave Murray and Janick Gers sliced up staples “Powerslave,” “Heaven Can Wait” and “The Trooper” with berserker solos.
But Maiden remains bassist and chief songwriter Steve Harris’ group. The architect of archetypal metal, Harris invented the genre’s galloping beat that propels most Maiden tunes. And the pick-less bassist, with his amazingly melodic lines, led his troopers through that trademark beat on most of the songs, including “Run to the Hills” and newer gem “Fear of The Dark.”
As in any Maiden show, the pageantry often - if not always - bordered on self parody. But after 20 years these guys know who they are, and aren’t afraid to joke at there own expense: Dickinson made a knowingly tenuous connection between Al Gore’s green message and “Mariner.” To them it’s only rock ’n’ roll, or rather histrionic metal, but they like it.
Harris’ daughter, Lauren Harris, opened the show with a some pop metal that was strictly mediocre - yet showed potential. But since she has a 23-year-old’s pretty face and was wearing skin-tight leather pants, no one in Maiden’s cult was about to complain about the old man’s kid’s set.
